Gout Natural Treatments
What Is Gout? Gout is caused by a build up of uric acid in the body. This acid is produced by eating certain foods and, normally, this is eliminated by the body. Unfortunately some people are unable to eliminate the acid so it builds up, forming needle-like crystals in the joints of the big toe (primarily), the ankles, knees and, sometimes, the elbow.
What are the symptoms of Gout? You'll know when you have gout because the effected joint will suddenly erupt in the most excruciating pain. This tends to happen when you are asleep, which only adds to the shock and bewilderment. The effected joint will be an angry red and very, very painful.

Is Gout dangerous? Gout can be extremely dangerous. The uric acid crystals that develop not only accumulate in joints but in uncontrolled chronic cases can accumulate in the blood vessels of our brain and kidneys. This can lead to strokes and kidney failure if left untreated. High blood pressure can also result. So can. kidney stones and worst of all death itself!
So, if you are unfortunate to suffer from Gout here are your two options:
Gout Medication:There are three classes of pharmaceuticals to treat the symptoms of gout. And - like all medications there is a risk of side effects. These may not effect everyone in the same way and there is no way to know, in advance, if you are likely to suffer side effects.
Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): For a gout attack many doctors recommend oral doses of anti-inflammatory drugs - one of the most well known being Ibuprofen. Many of these medications have side effects that revolve around the digestive system and include - but are not limited to - stomach pain, stomach bleeding and ulcers.
These medications can only manage a very limited amount of pain. Beyond that, increasing the dose is not only very dangerous but counterproductive, because larger doses don't give any more pain relief. Corticosteroids: These pharmaceuticals are also anti- inflammatory and are often are applied directly to the affected area by injection to get to work immediately. They may also be given orally.
They may also cause many unwelcome effects. For example, corticosteroids impair the vital immune system and decrease the body’s ability to fight infections and can delay healing of cuts and wounds. This group of medications, can also lead to brittle bones. Because of this wise physicians don't use this class of drugs for long term pain management of gout.
Colchicines: This class of drugs is the preferred choice of many doctors, because it is the most effective at preventing further flare-ups of gout. Unfortunately, there are some serious side effects to deal with, such as abdominal cramps; diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
What's more, there are many reports of pharmacuticals failing to make any impact - or even making matters worse...
"The Colchicine, Celebrex, Probenicid, and Allopurinol weren't doing much and they definately are not a cure for gout." Dr. Steve Rohde Ann Arbor, MI
"For my gout I tried the drug 'Allopurinol', but that made it worse." Gonzalo Peralta, Silver Spring, MD.
